The Cold
The Cold started, for me, the Saturday we returned from Tahoe. Usually I get a sore throat, then a stuffy nose, then a cough. This one started with the cough and I (fortunately) never had the sore throat. My nose began running immediately. I started the Neti pot right away, hoping to keep my sinuses from developing an infection.
The first couple of days were rough; I actually made it into the office that Monday, for half a day. Probably not a good idea; I spent the next two days on the couch. I was doing all the right things - lots of liquids, cold medications to help with the cough and to keep the sinuses clear and even a mug of freshly chopped garlic in lemon and honey (this one actually helped). Still, my cough sounded like I had a two pack a day habit and at night I could hear the crackling in my chest.
I missed two funerals, Bill Sterling’s and Gene Walker’s, due to being sick. I missed a lot of days in the office. It really wasn’t until the end of this past week that I started to feel better even if I didn’t sound any better. And still my sinuses are not sure about the infection - one day I’m fine, the next things aren’t looking so good. And there are twice as many tissue boxes throughout the house as normal.
I know many of you have endured the same cold. It lasts and lasts and lasts. I hope you feel better quickly or don’t catch it at all. At least now I’m out and about and even was able to watch the Superbowl, with the sad outcome for all the 49er fans.
