Violets are blooming!

It’s May and despite today’s showers, we’re finally having some Spring weather. And the Violets are blooming! In more than one way for us right now as well. We just became grandparents again to little Violet Serafina! She was born on the 2nd of May and we went to visit her on the 9th. She is adorable, of course.

I started working on a baby blanket for the baby, who we jokingly nicknamed Rose Jr. after her sister, Rose, as soon as we learned we would be grandparents again. I was still dealing with horse injuries and my work was incredibly busy, then there were the holidays and all of a sudden, here it was May and the blanket wasn’t finished.

The blanket is a simple design at the base - alternating rows of soft yellow, cream, pink and rose. However, in each color panel was a little button of yarn that would eventually become a flower. So, once the blanket itself was done I had to crochet 61 flowers. Then all of those flowers had to be sewn on. I ended up sewing all 61 flowers on over a two day period, finishing the blanket late in the afternoon the day before we left to meet Violet. I quickly blocked it and set it out to dry overnight.

We spent a lovely day in Oakland visiting the baby and the rest of the family, enjoying a brunch of caviar, Champagne and poke from last season’s albacore catch. We got to hold and watch the baby, who mostly slept and ate. It was wonderful.

I’m not allowed to share photos of the baby online, but here is a picture of the blanket:
