Brrrr...the weather has changed!

What a difference a week makes! We had a lovely, balmy, sit outside in the evening kind of Indian summer and now we are feeling the creeping onset of Winter. While the Valley had some very chilly mornings over the past couple of weeks, the days were quite warm. No more; highs in the lows 60’s for this week, according to one forecast.

At home we have started having a fire; the little bit of rain (we measured about a quarter of an inch) plus the spark arrester on the chimney allowed us to feel comfortable doing so. It was certainly nice to have yesterday and this morning! I made the annual change from a cotton blanket on our bed to a down-alternative blanket for added warmth while we sleep.

I love that it is colder - I like to dress in layers and play with my clothes. Summer doesn’t allow that - shorts or a skirt and a light top. No scarves or other accessories - it’s just too warm. I also am not a fan of heat but find I can always get warm in the cold - and it makes exercise and outdoor work much more pleasant.

One thing that hasn’t cooled off is the real estate market. Twice I’ve had people scheduled to come tour properties and twice we have had to cancel as those properties have gone into escrow prior to their visit. There is little new coming on, particularly here in the Valley. The coast seems to have more new listings, though even that has slowed down some.

Besides the weather change, we have obviously gone through quite the political whirlwind over the past week. Electing the first female Vice President is something! Long overdue, but here at last. And a woman of color, no less. I hope, as a nation, we can realize that while we feel there are better ways to govern, that’s only politics and that we are together Americans who love our families and our country.
